Perhaps the top prospect in the city of El Paso in the Class of 2009 is Hanks High WR Ryan Pettis. The 6'2 175 pound senior to be with 4.4 speed and a 30 inch vertical leap earned honorable mention all 1-5A honors as a junior in helping lead the Knights to a playoff appearance last year. Pettis besides putting up good numbers on the football field is a key member of the HHS track team where he specializes in all sprints.
"I think my biggest strength on the football field is my ability to go get the deep ball, I am looking to get faster and stronger this off-season and work on my route running," commented the WR from El Paso. Texas Tech tops Pettis' early list, "I like (Texas) Tech, they run an offense I like and they are pretty close to home," said Pettis. Georgia, Missouri, New Mexico and Oklahoma also top the early list in the race for Pettis.
This summer Ryan plans on keeping busy with 7 on 7 play as he hopes to lead Hanks to the State Tournament this summer at Texas A&M and he's also planning on attending a mini-camp at Texas. "Style of play will be key in me deciding where to go to school at, along with academics and a chance to play early," replied Pettis when asked what factors will decide where he lands. Ryan says for his senior year he'd like to break some of his older brother's receiving records at Hanks and help his team win district and have an extended stay in the playoffs.
