Marshall QB Darius Jones looks to be one of the most underrated players in all of East Texas, but the 5'11 175 pound athlete with 4.43 speed in the forty hasn't escaped the watchful eyes of recruiters.
Jones besides the big time speed is very strong for his size bench pressing 280 pounds and squatting 415 pounds. A three year letterman for the Mavericks, Jones was the District 12-4A offensive MVP as a junior leading MHS to a 7-5 record and a trip to the area playoffs in 2007. As a sophomore Darius played WR for Marshall and that is the position he's being recruited at for the most part.
Not only does Jones star on the football field for Marshall he also plays basketball, baseball and he runs track for the Mavericks. "My speed and knowledge of the game are my two biggest strengths, and this off-season I am looking to put on some good weight," replied the Marshall QB.
Darius lists academics and how he fits into the program's overall scheme as major factors in deciding where he'll land for his college years. "I probably won't decide until after the season," replied Jones when asked about a timetable for his decision.
The Marshall signal caller says he's got big expectations for 2008, "I want to help us not only win district but make a playoff run. We have our longtime rivals Longview in our district and we are very excited about it."
