In only their second season of existence the Rockwall Heath Hawks posted an impressive 7-3 record and narrowly missed the Class 4A State Playoffs. A big part of that success was RB Kendial Lawrence who posted some eye popping numbers as a junior. Lawrence who only started 8 games earned Class 4A First Team All-State honors rushing for 1734 yards and 21 touchdowns, along with posting 3 touchdowns in the air and one kick return for a score.
Lawrence who stands in at 5'10 and now weighs 190 pounds has impressive 4.4 speed in the forty along with a 33 inch vertical leap and a 285 pound bench press max is also a member of the Hawks track team. "My speed and vision are probably my two biggest strengths, but I'm also shifty and I hit the hole quickly," said Lawrence when asked to describe his strengths.
As things stand at this time Kendial holds two offers from Kansas and Buffalo and he's got interest in TCU, Texas, Oregon, Oklahoma and Georgia Tech. This summer look for Lawrence in camps at Georgia Tech and Oklahoma along with playing seven on seven for the Hawks.
Kendial who is undecided on his major says academics, campus location and a chance at early playing time will all play key roles in deciding where he lands. As for a timetable on his decision, Lawrence says that likely won't be determined until after the 2008 season.
With the Hawks just missing out on the playoffs in 2007, Kendial is focused on leading the Hawks to the school's first ever playoff appearance in 2008. "I want to make the playoffs this year and hopefully win district. Personally I'd like 30 touchdowns and 2500 yards."
