Argyle coming off their best season since moving to Class 3A will once again be a solid threat to make a little noise in the playoffs, however the Eagles lack the punch to really be a legitimate state title contender. In 2007, AHS advanced to the Regional Sem-Finals before falling to Snyder 34-27 finishing up with a 10-3 mark.

On the offensive side of the ball, the Eagles must find a way to replace the graduated J.J. Harp who guided the offense since his sophomore season. Look for sophomore Chad Hedlund to move in and take over the big shoes left by Harp. Hedlund does have one big time weapon to work with in WR Brady Brown. Brown who was second team all state in 2007, has the size at 6'5 and the speed to be a thorn in the sides of opposing defenses. The running game will be paced by Kyle Frizzell who really came on at the end of the 2007 season and his ability will give the Eagles much needed balance. The offensive line is small but they move well, their top performer is Chad Eads who garnered first team all 8-3A honors as a junior. Besides starting a sophomore at QB, the main concern will be depth at receiver as besides Brown the Eagles are starting two young players. Look for Brown to face lots of double teams early in the season until the two new wideouts prove themselves.

On defense, Argyle brings back five starters and other than those five guys there are questions abound. Look for depth to come from players from an 8-2 JV squad. The top player back is junior DE David Johnson, who earned District 8-3A Defensive MVP honors in 2007 posting 52 tackles and 9 sacks as a sophomore. Johnson is a classic edge pass rusher but his ability against the run is solid as well. The linebacker unit is led by Jake Katzen who earned second team all 8-3A accolades as a sophomore and Eddie Eckert who is the team's second leading returning tackler. The main area of concern is the secondary where there is a lack of speed and experience, the top player back is Matt Moore who notched 5 INTs.

Argyle moves into District 9-3A where they will be looking to compete with defending Division II State Champion Celina and up and coming power Prosper. The rest of the district doesn't look to daunting as Sanger isn't a consistent winner and Gainesville is still another year away from being a factor. Whitesboro, well they are still seeking their first ever playoff appearance.
