Although not a destination point for recruiters in most seasons, San Angelo is home to one of the better QB prospects in West Texas for the Class of 2009. Lake View QB John David Baker who has been a three year starter for the Chiefs put up solid numbers as a junior totaling nearly 1900 yards of offense and 17 touchdowns earning second team all 4-4A honors.

Baker who stands 6'1 195 pounds boasts a 4.6 forty yard dash time along with a 31 inch vertical leap and he's got surprising strength for a QB as he sports a 275 pound bench press max and a 475 pound squat max. John David besides starring on the gridiron is also a member of the Lake View baseball and track teams.

"I think my biggest strength is my toughness, I can take hit and come back for more and my versatility because I can beat you with my arm or feet," said Baker who is looking to focus on being more consistent in 2008.

As things stand right now Baker's top five is Texas Tech, SMU, North Texas, Rice and Oklahoma State although no one stands out at this time. This summer John David plans on making camps at Texas Tech, SMU, UTEP and Baylor in addition to playing 7 on 7.

"Academics will be key for me in making my decision along with going to a school where I have a chance to play," said the Lake View QB who plans on majoring Kinesiology. As far as a timeline for a decision, Baker says he'd like to decide early if possible.

After an 0-10 season in 2006, the Chiefs finished 2-8 in last year and with the majority of the team back for 2008 Baker has high hopes. "Anything less than us making the playoffs will be considered a disappointment, I don't care about any individual goals. I just want to get into the playoffs."
