Strong play helps Katy to win in Terry SQT

TexasPrepInsider brings you the run down of the state qualifying 7-on-7 tournament at B.F. Terry High School Saturday. In the final game, Katy slipped by Houston Memorial. Both will play this July in the state tournament in College Station.

Finals
Katy vs. Houston Memorial
In a close game that ended with Katy holding the ball to let time run out, it was the Tigers taking the No. 1 spot with a 14-12 win over Memorial. With Tiger quarterback Parker Ray delivering the touchdown passes and Kyle Hirschfelder holding it down defensively, the Tigers managed to make a run through the day and only suffered one loss during pool play.

The Mustangs, who will earn their first state berth by playing in the Terry SQT final, were undefeated until facing the Tigers in the championship game.

"It's a good feeling and I really feel like this helps the team with the timing of our routes," Ray said. "It also helps with camaraderie. Hopefully this will help us out for the season. If we play our game, we'll be fine."

Due to the fact that both Lamar Consolidated and Conroe had commencement obligations, the third place game was not played. The Mustangs were awarded third place while the Tigers were fourth respectively.

Semifinals
Katy vs. Conroe
From start to finish, Katy dominated the match. The Ray-to-Taylor Brandt touchdown connection was fairly consistent in the 39-20 win.

Lamar Consolidated vs. Houston Memorial
The game in the battle of the Mustangs came down to the wire with Memorial coming out on top. After jumping out to an early lead, Memorial never looked back and pulled out a 29-28 victory.
