Southlake Carroll SQT Preview

Even the day before a SQT, TexasPrepInsider breaks things down at the last minute!! Matt Stepp and Matt Diggs preview all the action for tomorrow's 7 on 7 State Qualifier!

Once again Southlake Carroll hosts their SQT which will for the most part be held at Carroll Senior High School, but one pool will be played at Dawson Middle School. Two spots in the 7 on 7 State Tournament at Texas A&M on July 11-12 are on the line. Pool play will start at 1pm.

POOL A

Southlake Carroll: The Dragons after posting a 2-1 record at Colleyville Heritage will look to lock up another spot in the State Tournament. QB Kyle Padron continues to progress with his young receivers and SLC is always dangerous at their own SQT. The Dragons will be tough to pick against at their own SQT despite being in the toughest pool.

Denton Guyer: In two SQTs the Wildcats have lost one game losing the championship at Colleyville Heritage to Arlington Lamar. Guyer doesn't have any stars but they have experience and great athletes and will be fun to watch at the State Tournament.

Saginaw Boswell: The Pioneers got off to a strong start last week at the Frisco Liberty SQT but lost to Keller Central in overtime which prevented Boswell from advancing to the semi-finals. Junior QB Quinton Gregory has progressed nicely, and keep an eye on LB Emeka Ekwulugo and DB Kirk Haberts.

Arlington: The Colts have posted a 5-2 record in two SQTs including nearly qualifying last week at Waco Midway. AHS fell to Stephenville in the semi-finals in double overtime last week. Arlington led by WR Jamal Nero is showing they are a threat in the summer action for really the first time. I had picked the Colts to win the pool, but since then I have had a change of heart and I'll stick with SLC barely.

Little Matt's Pool Pick: Southlake Carroll

Big Matt's Pool Pick: Arlington

POOL B

Duncanville: Quite possibly the top defensive team in 7 on 7 play, DHS has the athletes to match up with anyone. DHS posted a 2-1 record two weeks ago at Colleyville Heritage, but they struggled on offense without WR Jordan Selexman as Chayse Joubert faced constant double teams. If full strength Duncanville is the odds on favorite to take this pool.

Fort Worth Eastern Hills: The Highlanders two weeks ago failed to notch a win at the Colleyville Heritage SQT, however EHHS is very young and they should improve every week. Eastern Hills likely won't challenge Duncanville, but they have enough to post a solid showing this week.

Keller Fossil Ridge: KFR has never advanced to the State Tournament, but the Panthers have possibly one of their better chances to advance led by WR Aaron Fisher and LB Brandon Mahoney. However after those two, there is a question of depth. If they get good play from the QB slot, expect the Panthers to possibly challenge Duncanville.

Colleyville Heritage JV: CHHS is bringing their JV squad to assist in filling the tournament. They will be treated like a state qualifier and can not advance past pool play.

POOL C

Colleyville Heritage: The Panthers had a disappointing performance two weeks ago at their own SQT posting a 1-2 record and not qualifying for the State Tournament. I expect an inspired effort from the Panthers this week and I feel like they have enough to win the pool.

Lewisville: The Fighting Farmers have never qualified for the State Tournament, but with their athletes seeming to be back in the fold after a few down years Lewisville is a dangerous bunch. QB Jordan Dotson will need to play well, but the Farmers are a definite sleeper pick.

Arlington Lamar: So far so good for the Vikings as Lamar has posted an 8-0 record in two SQTs thus far. Lamar who has already qualified for the State Tournament will once again look to play their young guys as they look to develop depth for the grind that is the State Tournament.

Mansfield Legacy: The Broncos made their SQT debut last week and posted 1-2 mark but took it on the chin in their two games against public schools DeSoto and Plano West. Legacy is very young and will be doing well simply to stay competitive.

Little Matt's Pool Pick: Colleyville Heritage

Big Matt's Pool Pick: Lewisville

POOL D

Midlothian: The Panthers posted a 2-1 mark last week at the Waco Midway SQT. MHS has one of the top QB's in the area in Bryce Petty and solid cover corner in Dante Floyd but do the Panthers have enough to win the pool this week?? Midlothian will need some of their young receivers to step up in order to make an impact.

Richland: The Rebels struggled some last week in a tough pool going 1-2 but with WR/DB Phillip Gonzales and DB Isaac Umesi the Rebels have more talent than they've had in the past. This week's pool isn't the hornets nest last week was at Frisco Liberty and I think they have a good shot to take the pool.

Wichita Falls: The Coyotes are making their SQT debut in 2007 after a solid initial showing last year. WFHS has another potential big time WR in Antwone Moore and a solid QB Ben Henderson. Old High has excellent athletes and could make some noise in what looks to be a very evenly matched pool.

Southlake Carroll JV: SLC is bringing their JV squad to assist in filling the tournament. They will be treated like a state qualifier and can not advance past pool play.

Little Matt's Pool Pick: Wichita Falls

Big Matt's Pool Pick: Richland

SEMI-FINALS
