On offense junior Nathan Sorensen is back for his junior season after putting up solid numbers as a sophomore with 1826 passing yards and 15 touchdowns. Sorensen should be an even bigger threat in the passing game in 2008 especially with his group of receivers led by Cobi Hamilton who had 726 yards and 7 touchdowns receiving. The running game is anchored by Leory Jones who posted first team all 11-4A honors rushing for 1109 yards and 10 touchdowns. The offensive line is a senior dominated crew with four senior staters and one junior C Eric Stewart who was first team all 11-4A as a sophomore. The offensive line has big time size and with the speed and experience at the skill positions look for the Tigers to be not only one of the top offensive units in East Texas but also in the state.
The Tigers defense brings back 7 starters and although they lose their leader in Brandon Brown, expect MLB Raymundrick Brown to step right in and be the catalyst and emotional leader of the defense. As a junior, Brown notched first team all-district in 2007. Up front Garry Williams and Vonderrick Allen lead the Tigers 4-3 defensive front and with their size they should be able to clog things up to free the linebackers up to make plays. In the secondary DB Montrae Williams is fast emerging as one of the top prospects in the Class of 2010.
The UIL didn't do T High any favors as not only do the Tigers move south, but they will bump heads with the likes of Marshall who eliminated them from the playoffs, Longview who was a 5A quarter-finalist in 2007 and up and coming Sulphur Springs and Mount Pleasant. District 13-4A will be a gauntlet but come playoff time all the teams in this loop including Texas High will be battle tested.
