Some big time talent has passed through Liberty-Eylau since the year 1999 when the Leopards rolled to the first of their two state titles in the past ten years and once again there's talent at L-E but youth will be served in 2008.
Overall, look for Liberty-Eylau to be much deeper and more versatile in 2008 after being the LaMichael James Show in 2007. Elusive Alex Watson takes the reins at QB after piloting the JV squad to an 8-1 mark. He'll be joined in the backfield by two big bruising backs in second team all 16-3A performer Josh Webster and 233 pound FB Vincent Lewis. Speedster Marquez Clark and first team all-district TE Kevin Brown are the top threats in the passing game.
On defense the Leopards bring back five starters, the top player is DL Charles Rigsby who likely will see significant time on offense as well. Keith Cross teams with Rigsby to give L-E a formidable front four. Sophomore LB Tra Carson has major potential.
Overall, look for Texarkana Liberty-Eylau to be improved from a down 2007. Teams tended to stack 9 guys at the line to slow down James and the Leps simply didn't have the weapons to make people play. That should change this year, with the 16 letterman back and reinforcements from a good JV. 16-3A isn't nearly as daunting as it used to be as Atlanta has been down for five years now and Pittsburg graduated a really strong senior class along with Pleasant Grove. With that being said L-E is the favorite to win 16-3A as they are rebuilding less than the others.
