On offense Pecos should be much improved, 7 starters are back including FB Hector Ramirez. Ramirez who was first team 1-3A as a junior rushing for 1093 yards and 13 TDs along with 2 receiving TDs. The passing game is in good hands with QB Paul Zubelida who threw for 635 yards and 6 TDs despite playing in a run based offense. Zubelida has WR Jeremy Martinez back who missed all but one quarter of 2007. In 2006 as a sophomore Martinez caught 30 passes for 593 yards. The offensive line does have some questions, but they are led by Bryan Navarette who was second team all 1-3A.
On defense expect Pecos to also be much improved with 9 starters back. The defensive line is in good hands with Bert Sotello who was first team all 1-3A and Martin Jasco who was second team all 1-3A. At LB Nick Granado and leading tackler Joseph Ontiveros are back, and depth will be provided by Hector Ramirez and sophomore Ramiro Pinales. The secondary will be led by sophomore Jerome Mazone who could be playing on Saturdays and second team all-district Jonathan Dominguez.
Pecos should see more wins in 2008 and with a district that losses powerhouse Monahans PHS could be in the playoff mix in 2008.
