2007 was a season that has brought some hope to the long struggling Pine Tree football program. Much of that hope however has disappeared with realignment putting PTHS in one of the toughest districts in the state. Pine Tree which hasn't made the playoffs since 2002 and the Pirates haven't gotten a playoff win since 1976.

The offense is led by RB Ray Horton who ran for 740 yards and 10 touchdowns while splitting carries, he'll be joined by Jacques Pollard and QB Alton Horton. Those three are all capable of making plays. When Pine Tree needs to throw the ball they'll look to WR Terrance Sparkman. Coach Russell does have concerns along the offensive line, however he does have a building block in LaRoyce Johnson.

Pine Tree has six starters back on defense and the defensive line is one strong area as PTHS boasts some good size up front led by Ryan Wallace and Niko Welch. The secondary is led by Tyler Kids who was second team all 12-4A as a sophomore and KeShun Allen.

Pine Tree was a pleasant surprise last year going 5-5 and playing very competitive against some of the power teams in the old 12-4A. They have good experience returning, but the new 13-4A will be a gauntlet however as Pine Tree joins a loop that includes new cross town rival Longview down from 5A, Texas High, Sulphur Springs and Marshall. Playoffs will likely be unlikely in this district as anything better than 6th will be a surprise.
