2008 Team Insiders: Bellaire Cardinals

It is safe to say that the Bellaire football team will go out in 2008 to make a bold statement. After a sub par 2007 season with plenty of sophomores in starting roles, the Cardinals return with new players and a new attitude. So what can the Cardinal fans look forward to? TexasPrepInsider has the previews for all of your favorite teams.

Lining up once again in a tough District 20-5A, the Houston Bellaire football team will have their work cut out for them once again this year. But after finishing 4-6 last season, the Cardinals look for brighter days. One key with this year's team is that they are young, but got plenty of growing pains from last season.

The strength on this year's team is defense where the Cardinals have seven starters returning. Headlining this group is defensive lineman Joe Okaphor, who is poised for a big season. At linebacker, Will Tremble leads the way for the Cardinals. In the secondary, Brooks Creasey returns after racking up 45 tackles. Also look for Ryan Kelly and Emmanuel Ojo to make some noise also.

On offense, look for improvement across the board. After starting all 10 games as a sophomore, quarterback Adrian Nelson is back after a solid season in 2007. Nelson threw for 850 yards and seven touchdowns. But he won't have to do everything because he is joined in the backfield by running backs Eric Deveaux and Broderick Flowers. Neither has started on the varsity level, but coach Jeff Walker is confident that these two can get the job done.

Leading the way on the offensive line is center John Dean. He and Devin Lewis will lead a line, which has some youth.
