Despite losing in the first round last year, Quinlan Boles had a great season including wins over some solid 2A teams. One saving grace for Boles this year will be its placement in District 14-1A, which should eliminate a lot of the Region III East Texas powers for the first few rounds of the playoffs. 14 starters return from last year's 10-1 team. They look to build on the strength of last season's finish. This group will have to step up as the incoming JV team did not fare so well.
Kailob Wallace had an effective freshman year racking up 1000 yards, but the player they wanted to see with the ball was Joe Gilliard. His 1800 yards made him a force throughout the season. The offensive line is average for a 1A squad which could be troublesome as the playoff run continues deeper. Defensively, several players see both sides of the field including returning leading tackler Kelly Dodson. He averaged 100 tackles a game and made great individual plays. Tyler Pettus and Bryan Cleveland provide good size on the defensive line.
Overall, I like the chances of Quinlan Boles to have a deep playoff run this year. They should be the best team in the region and at least get to the fourth round of the playoffs if not the fifth round. If the team gets a lot of confidence this season, they could be especially dangerous. Watch out for the Quinlan Boles Hornets as a team to watch in 1A football!
