2007 Mineola made a surprising run to the playoffs finishing with a 6-5 mark, however the stay was short in the postseason as the Yellow Jackets were beaten by Texarkana Pleasant Grove 34-25 in a close game. This year MHS may be even better but overall their district might be tougher so getting back to the postseason may be a challenge.

On offense the Yellow Jackets will employ a two QB system which worked well for them last year. Coach Wells lists Nic Watkins as the starter, but Colton Bickerstaff saw equal time also. Both players have similar skill sets and neither stepped out last year. Look for those two to also see time on the defensive side of the ball. There are holes in the backfield as Carlos Rivera and C.J. Everett will get the first crack at the job but expect Stephen Hughes to see time as well. The Yellow Jackets graduated most of the offensive line and that will be a position to watch.

Mineola's bread will be buttered by their defense with seven starters returning. DE Casey Lindley will be the top player up front, but the strength will be at LB. Carlos Rivera leads the way as he was first team all 15-3A as a sophomore, also watch out for sophomore Jeremy Smith. Mineola should be solid in the secondary as well.

Despite getting out of a district that included Gilmer, Mineola top to bottom is in a tougher district as Canton, Van and Wills Point are all solid teams. Expect MHS to fight it out with Wills Point for the final playoff spot in 14-3A.
