Last season, South Oak Cliff had the philosophy that one good upset should follow another. After Ennis upset Waco in the first round, South Oak Cliff returned the favor beating Ennis before being ousted by Highland Park in Texas Stadium. This season, South Oak Cliff is poised to have a great season returning 9 starters, but the youth and individual talent coming up should help the Golden Bears have an excellent season. They are in the tougher DISD district so they will have some key match-ups against good rivals over the course of the season.

Kevin Adams and Dedric Hill will battle for the right to be the quarterback of the team. The other one will likely play wide receiver. I like Kevin Adams to eventually win as he is bigger and faster than Hill. Kenneth Douglas averaged 8 yards every time he touched the ball last season. The offensive line will be pretty big led by Darrius Robinson and Tavodrick Turner. Sophomore D'Morros Sutton may end up being the best of the bunch when all is said and done. The wide receivers will be led by Quincy Watson and DeMarcus Banks.

The defense last year held Ennis to 5 points and slowed Deonte McDade to a crawl. The defense will be even better this season. Kevin Brent is the leader of the defense. He is one of the best defensive safeties in the state - and should shine this season. Kenneth Pinkard joins him in the secondary. The defensive line will be pretty solid led by Marquis Winston and Robert Smith. The linebackers will be a strength of the team with sophomore Tommy Jones being a bright recruiting talent. Overall though, the linebackers will be a little smaller than last season.

Overall, I see SOC landing second or third in the district. I don't see them beating Carter and they will have a hard time competing with Kimball. Still, South Oak Cliff has the talent to beat either, and if they do - they could have another three round deep run in the playoffs. The coaching staff look to have this ship turned around and with the upcoming sophomore talent sprinkled in with the returning juniors and seniors - this team could end up like Skyline of last season and be a surprise dominant team. If that happened, it wouldn't surprise me - much less the coaching staff of the Golden Bears who is very high on this year's team.
