In 2002 New Boston appeared to be a program on the rise as the Lions in Class 3A posted an 11-2 record. Howevever by 2004, the Lions fell on hard times going 0-10 in Coach Ronnie Bickham's final season at the helm. Rick Barker took over in 2005 and the Lions have not had a losing season since but they haven't posted a playoff win either.

On offense NBHS brings back 8 starters and behind QB Janson Carr who has a good arm and really matued after starting 10 games as a sophomore. RB Cedric Wade will be the team's bellcow in the backfield as he notched second team all-district honors. Jordan Thompson is an excellent WR with good size and hands. The offensive line and an overall lack of speed concerns Coach Barker.

With seven starters back despite the move up from Class 2A to 3A won't hurt the Lions quite as much. The defensive line will be a strength DL Kion Stewart is big time and must be accounted for as he was first team all 17-2A. Gary Lorance is a good sidekick for Stewart as he was 2nd team all 17-2A. The linebackers are young but both are talented as Rudy Barker and Bradon Payton take the reins. Jacob Simmons at FS is a potential all-state performer.

New Boston will be right in the mix for third place in 16-3A, but Pittsburg, Atlanta and Mount Vernon will all be stiff competiton.
