Vidor Pirates

The last time the Vidor Pirates saw the postseason was back in the 2000 season where they fell to Nederland 21-9 in the Bi-District round. They have struggled during the last few years as they haven't seen a winning season since 2002 when they finished 6-4. Last year Vidor finished 2-8 and this season they are hoping that 14 returning starters and the addition of a 4th playoff team in 4A can help them land a playoff spot out of 20-4A. Coach Jeff Mathews believes the strong offseason the kids have had may be able to get the Pirates into the Playoffs.

Vidor returns 7 starters on offense from last year's team that averaged 16 points per game. QB Chris Teinert will lead the Pirate offense after he completed 25 passes for 200 yards and 3 touchdowns last season. Also back is FB Theron Reynolds. Reynolds rushed for 400 yards and 8 touchdowns on 80 carries. Opening the holes on the offensive line will be James Burns, Brian Patton and Collin Strother. "Reynolds is the type of back that once he gets in the open, watch out says Mathews". Quarterback Teinert has grown up alot according to Mathews and has improved in his passing game as well as his ability to scramble. Another strong spot for the Pirates will be the Offensive Line, if the pirates stay healthy and can keep the turnover ration down i can Vidor challenging for a Playoff spot.

Other Key Players
Shayne Pitman (RB)
Trae Hester (WR)

The Pirates also return 7 starters on defense from last year's unit that allowed 24 points per game. Above mentioned Teinert is also the team's leading returning tackler as he came away with 143 last season. Leading the Pirate secondary will be CB Jerrod Williamson and S Jake Travis. Travis had a nice 2007 season as he finished with 5 interceptions on the year. Look for good things from the LB crew as James Larramore will lead the way there. "I'm so excited about the Defense this season says Mathews, we have some decent speed and size to hopefully keep teams out of the endzone".
