Little Elm was one of the rare teams that went 8-2 but did not make the playoffs. They were pre-ranked in the top 20 to start the season and then had two crucial losses in district play which kept them from reaching their full potential. If that wasn't good - they graduated their best class ever and only return 6 starters. It will be a long uphill climb for Coach Beasley who will have to find a QB other than his son for the first time in three years.
The team has a lot of positions open and not much has been determined. Offensively, the skill players will be Chase Melton and Joey Merlene. Kramer Green may play running back. Young Kelvin White if he has a good August may earn his way into the starting role. The offensive line will be of average size - Garrett Sullivan will provide some beef offensively. Defensively, Aric Rodriguez and Jesse Sanchez will join Clifton Murphy on the defensive line. Patrick Salerno, one of the only returning starters, played great at linebacker last season. The secondary will be a little weak. Fred Fowler may see time at a rover position as a youngster.
Overall, Little Elm moves from a manageable district to a tough district. Couple in the loss of all of their talent and offensive production - Little Elm could be looking at an uphill climb. I don't see Little Elm finishing any higher than 6th. I think they are part of the second tier with The Colony, Lake Dallas and Denton Guyer - and not on the top side of that tier. Although I see them finishing as high as 6th, I am predicting them to finish 7th with their only district victory being against Denton High. Greenville is a winnable non-district game, but it might be their only win until the last game of the season.
