Lumberton Raiders

2007 was a landmark year for the Lumberton Raider football program. Prior to last season the Raiders had never seen week 11. However, all that changed as they went 9-1 during the regular season including beating Nederland in week 10 for the final playoff spot. The Raiders didn't just settle for making the playoffs either. They went on a 3 deep playoff run that included a win over defending state champion LaMarque. Last year's senior laden Raider team now gives way to a very young group in 2008. Just 6 total starters return for Lumberton this season that will try to lead the Raiders to back to back playoff appearances.

Key Wins Last Year
Nederland (33-7)

LaMarque (24-21)

Lumberton has just 2 offensive starters back from last year's team that averaged 30 points per game but 1 of those will be a huge weapon in TB Jacob Hanna. Hanna saw limited action behind Cody Hussey at TB last season and rushed for 312 yards and 6 touchdowns on 37 carries. He will now be the go to man in the Raider backfield and should be a force in 2008. The offensive line for Lumberton should be strong as well led by OT Hunter Howden and C Kyle Gillam. Big question is can the Raiders make it back to the Playoffs? Will be alot tougher than last season losing so many starters but i have them picked 4th in a very tough District behind Nederland, PN-G and Beaumont Central. The Offensive Line will have to be replaced in spots but the young kids stepping up look to fill those shoes.

Other Key Players
Taylor Granato (WR)
Ryan Asher (TB)

Defensively the Raiders welcome back 4 starters from the 2007 unit that allowed just 14 points per game. Above mentioned Hanna will also be an impact player for the Lumberton defense after posting 49 tackles (20 for a loss) and 6 sacks last season from his DE position. At the other DE spot Kendall Duvall also returns for 2008. Last year Duvall recorded 31 tackles (9 for a loss). Also look for another big season from MLB Anthony Beard. He had an impressive 109 tackles in 2007. The Raiders still look strong on Defense, Duvall and Hanna will also have playing time on Defense. MLB Anthony Beard also returns and had  agreat season in 07.

Other Key Players

Jesse Sparks (SS)
