Texasprepinsider previews all the teams in the state, not just the top 25 teams but we preview all the teams in the Houston, DFW and other areas of the state. The Houston team of Kerry Cooper, Butch McReynolds, KErry Cooper, Jay Darneal and Ahmard Vital is previewing the Houston area and here is our latest addition.

Bridge City Cardinals

Last year was a very tough rebuilding season for the Bridge City Cardinals. Certainly not the season 1st year Head Coach Chris Stump wanted .The Cardinals went 0-10 and were blown out in all but two of their games. BC had a ton of youth last year and brought in a new head coach and new offense which contributed greatly to the rough season. 2008 should be a different story as the Cards return 17 total starters and now have had a full off season under coach Stump. We will have to wait and see if the results begin to show on the field as the red and white try to get into the playoff race in 21-3A. With so many players returning you should a different Bridge City team this season.

Offense

Bridge City returns 8 offensive starters from last year's team that averaged 15 points per game. Dual threat QB Dustin Breaux returns after completing 121 passes for 1,250 yards and 9 touchdowns and rushing for 482 yards and 7 touchdowns. BC has been known for having some top notch dual threat QBs in the past decade such as Jamey Knight and Johnny Dishon. Now Breaux will look to add his name to that list with a much anticipated 2008 season under center. Also back in the BC backfield is powerful RB Joe Robertson. Last year Robertson rushed for 828 yards and 5 touchdowns on 200 carries. The Cardinals will also welcome back WR Luke Rhodes in 2008. Rhodes had a nice 2007 season catching 34 passes for 430 yards and 6 touchdowns. Big Red has the athletes in the right positions and should see a huge improvement this year. Coach Chris Stump is the brother of West Brook Head Coach Craig Stump. A coach with the last name Stump won't be down long. Look for the Cardinals to keep the spread Offense and with new OC Josh Smiley returning the Cardinals should see vast improvement.

Jerry Landry (WR)

Defense

The Cards return 8 defensive starters from last year's unit that allowed a whopping 54 points per game. The "Red Swarm" defense for BC will have to improve greatly in 2008 if they are to compete for a playoff spot in 21-3A. They should be able to be more in the mix  now with the departure of Kirbyville and Jasper from the district." We were so young last season, it was one of the youngest groups i've ever coached said Stump, One thing about all the kids returning on Defense is they have worked their tails off this Offseason".
