2008 Team Insider: Katy Taylor Mustangs

After the last realignment, the Katy ISD football programs are in its own district much like Cy Fair and Fort Bend. So the battle in West Houston begins and the Katy Taylor football team will line up this season with six returning starters and a new coach. So what's in store for the Mustangs? TexasPrepInsider has the previews for all of your favorite teams.

New coach and a new attitude usually bring a newfound confidence to teams. This past off-season, coach Flint Risen (formerly at SMU) took over the Mustang squad. And while he may not have a lot of returning (3 OFF, 3 DEF) starters, Risen will make something happen with the cards he is dealt.

Offensively, the Mustangs will have Doug Taylor taking the snaps at quarterback. Running back John Lattal is the team's leading returning back with 255 yards and two touchdowns as a junior. Look for Stephen Sartory to be in the rotation as well.

In the passing game, tight end Trent Guiberteau is poised for a big year while wide receiver Eric Havercamp will be on the edge. On the offensive line, Chase Schaeffer and Adam Traxler return.

On defense, defensive back Parker Stevens looks to break out this year after recording 30 tackles and two interceptions. Stevens' success could come to fruition with defensive end Agostino applying the pressure to opposing quarterbacks. Agostino had 45 tackles last season.

The Mustangs will look to improve on last year's results as Taylor was No. 7 in team offense with 271.5 yards a game and No. 6 in team defense giving up 305.4 yards a game.
