2008 Team Insider: Houston Westside Wolves

Eight players return to the fairly new Houston Westside football team. Though playoffs have been something they have accomplished in year's past, making a run is something the Wolves look forward to. So do they have what it takes? Check out TexasPrepInsider as we highlight your favorite teams in Texas with our previews.

Entering his second year at Houston Westside, coach Mark Byrd looks towards the future, which is here in 2008. The Wolves welcome back eight (4 OFF, 4DEF) starters and will line up once again in District 20-5A.

Offensively, the Wolves have quite a few proven players who will need to make plays in ensure success for Westside. Like every year, the Wolves have a go-to guy at wide receiver and this is Kevin Brooks' year. In the No. 2 slot last year, Brooks hauled in 52 catches for 600 yards and eight touchdowns.

Brooks made most of his plays on out routes allowing him to pick up yards after the catch and will likely be the next 1,000-yard receiver. Also look for Patrick Major and Mauricio Vasquez to be a part of the receiving corp. The other playmaker made a name for himself as a sophomore, running back Frank Williams, who had 1,300 yards and 13 touchdowns.

On defense the Wolves have plenty of returning talent. Headlining this group is defensive end Eric Dago, who is known for his pass-rushing skills. Dago had over 50 tackles and four sacks last season. At linebacker, Stephen Thompson is one you will want to keep an eye on.

In the secondary, Keith Davis leads the group, which includes Chris Redman and James Annassi.
