2008 Team Insider: Houston Westbury Rebels

After a 4-6 season in 5A ball, the Houston Westbury team is back with 11 starters. But now they line up in 4A district with new teams and new challenges. So what can the Rebel fans expect in 2008? Check out TexasPrepInsider as we highlight your favorite teams in Texas with our previews.

Making the move to District 21-4A for the Westbury football team was what the U.I.L. decided this past off-season. But according to coach Keeath Magee it was a lateral move with the "out of the frying pan into the fire" statement that he made during the spring football.

Either way, the Rebels will line up in the spread-I offense and return 11 (5 OFF, 6 DEF) starters from last year's 4-6 team.

Offensively, the Rebels will likely work their workhorse, running back Charles Sims. Whether in the backfield (1,025, 16 touchdowns) or in the slot receiver position (37 catches for 447 yards and two touchdowns), Sims can be dangerous. Also look for running back Chris Bernard to get some touches as well after rushing for 204 yards and two touchdowns as a sophomore.

On defense, defensive lineman DeAnthony Sims is the big man up front who had 42 tackles last season. Look for Jestin Davis and Eoles Whitaker on the line as well. At linebacker, Michael Orakpo is the leader after a 78 tackle, three sacks, and two-interception junior season.

In the secondary, Khalum Brewer returns. Brewer had 40 tackles and two interceptions last season. C. Sims will also be the team's return specialist.
