2008 Team Insider: Kingwood Mustangs

The Mustangs squeezed into the playoffs last year after a few solid wins in district play. Now in a new district that includes the Aldine ISD teams, will the Mustangs find a way to make the playoffs again? Check out TexasPrepInsider as we highlight your favorite teams in Texas with our previews.

Realignment has made a new North Houston district (19), as Humble ISD will battle Aldine ISD. Either way, the Kingwood football team is known for making playoff appearances and they look for this year to be no different. Coach Dougald McDougald has 10 (7 OFF, 3 DEF) retuning from last year's 3-8 team.

Geoffrey Perrott who generated nearly 700 yards of total offense and nine total touchdowns will lead the offense. Joining Perrott in the backfield Michael Schrang and Phillip Markle. Also look for newcomer Casey Manger in the rotation.

At wide receiver, Robert Singletary could be the go-to guy after playing on the other side of the ball last year. Look for Matt McDougald and Matt Irwin at receiver as well. On the offensive line, Travis Swanson (Arkansas commit) will lead the way for the big boys.

Up front defensively, the Mustangs have Singletary, along with Michael Underwood and Robert Stalzer. Returning at linebacker is Kyle Sorge and the secondary unit includes: Marshall Clapp and Zack Ackerman.

Kicker/punter Greg Saladino was good on four field goals last season with a long of 42 yards. He also averaged 35.48 yards a punt.
