2008 Team Insider: Houston Washington Eagles

The Washington football team made a nice run last season making it to the area round of the playoffs. Now, with 10 starters returning, can the war Eagles repeat or build on that success form last year? Check out TexasPrepInsider as we highlight your favorite teams in Texas with our previews.

As far as this season is concern, the Washington football team should run the table in District 22-4A. Coach Marlon Taplin-McMillan welcomes back 10 (5 OFF, 5 DEF) starters from last year's 7-5 playoff team.

For starters, on offense look for running back Dominique Adams to set the tone for the Eagle team. Adams rushed for 388 yards and four touchdowns and caught eight passes for 260 yards and four touchdowns. He will likely be the live wire to get things started.

Quarterback Daniel Taylor will take the snaps in 2008. The leader in providing the protection up front will be Sharron Tillman along with Xavier McDaniel. Taylor will have a few targets to throw to with Ketrick McCutcheon, Marc Johnson, and Allen McCord.

Defensively, defensive tackle Michael Welch is the team's leading tackler with 60 from last season. Brandon Dunbar (tackle) and Chancelor Lee (end) also return for the defensive line unit. At linebacker Keeland Bryant returns, and in the secondary Maurice Mitchell and James Holloway will be in the pass coverage.

Washington pulled down 14 interceptions last season and was ranked No. 4 in the district giving up nearly 253 yards a game.
