It's pretty well known around the Houston sports community that the Lamar football team is one of the top programs in the city. And despite their wall-to-wall district championships and playoff appearances, it is likely that the Redskins want more than just getting in. From their 10-2 team from last season, Lamar returns 11 (6 OFF, 5 DEF) starters in 2008.

Offensively, the Redskins have a proven ground game and running back Kalvin Guyton is the headliner. Guyton had 723 yards and 13 touchdowns last season and is known for his agility. When Guyton is not running the ball, look for newcomer Patrick Andrews.

In the passing game, Josh Gordon will likely be the go-to guy after catching 20 passes and scoring four touchdowns. Also look for Earl Hurst, Jordan Bilbo, and Patrick Overshown to be in the rotation.

On defense, linebacker DeWayne Buggs will lead the way. The front line will consist of Craig Thomas, Marcus McPherson, and Joseph Champs.

The top player in the secondary is Nieko Conway who had two interceptions last season. Joining Conway will be Drew Bostick and Earl Foster.
