When coach Craig Cripps made the move over to Northbrook after leading a hard-hitting Houston Memorial defense as the coordinator, he knew he would have his hands full. But last season, Cripps and the Raiders hit the ground running to a 3-0 start.

Now the Raiders line up for 2008 with 11 starters and a confidence that should aid in bringing more wins to the program. The Northbrook football team's success will likely predicate on athlete Derrick Rainey's performance this season.

Rainey had 1,003 yards and seven total touchdowns for the Raiders last season. He has the ability to line up at all of the offensive skilled positions and make plays. Northbrook's quarterback also returns with Jose Maldonado under center. Maldonado threw for 479 yards and eight touchdowns as a junior.

Also look for wide receiver Tony Rollins in the line up. Defensively the Raiders will have quite a few new faces, but look for lineman Andrew Spencer to make some noise.

The Raiders are building on their first multi-win season in more than seven years so improvement has to be in the near future. Last season Northbrook was ranked No. 7 in both total offense (244 yards) and defense (346.1). Look for improvements in both categories in 2008.
