When it comes to Texas high school coaches, Houston Madison coach Ray Seals is one who has put in many years. Even more so, Seals has been at Madison for more than 20 years and now he prepares his Marlin team for the 2008 season.

Seals will have 10 starters back to work with for the upcoming season. And it is clear that the strength is on defense.

Success defensively will start with linebacker James Washington, who was the team's leading tackler last season. Washington finished with over 80 tackles and two interceptions (one went for a touchdown). Look for Ashton Brumont to be alongside Washington as well.

Also, the Marlins' defensive linemen include Michael Ware, Jeremy Kirt, Mertroy Harris, Kenneth Thompson, and Phillip Neal. The leader Ware ended up with 42 tackles and four sacks, but the entire unit brings a lot of experience to the table.

In the secondary, Lucky Britton leads the way.

Offensively, the Marlins acquired a transfer during spring football from Broderick Thomas Jr. As a junior at Fort Bend Elkins, Thomas threw for 974 yards and ran for another 1,093 yards, for a total of 27 touchdowns. He could help jump-start an offense that averaged 274.9 yards a game last year.

The Thomas move-in will likely allow former quarterback, Jeffery Lewis, to solely play running back after gaining 1,440 yards of offense and 25 touchdowns last season. When the ball is thrown, there is a good chance that Jordan Edwards will be on the receiving end.

Dominique Allen will lead providing the protection up front along with center Marvin Hollie.
