FORT WORTH- In a scrimmage that just never seemed to end, the final results never changed as the North Crowley Panthers simply took it to the Fort Worth Southwest Raiders Saturday afternoon at Southwest HS.
North Crowley simply beat Southwest to the punch in every aspect of the controlled scrimmage, the Panthers had superior size, speed and depth that Southwest was unable to match. Southwest's first and second offense took the first two series and they were unable to score and only once did they move into Panther territory. North Crowley's defense was swarming and even more impressive was the depth as NCHS was missing their top player in DL Marvin Foster.
North Crowley's first and second offense scored three times in their series, as QB Tyrone Northworthing scored on a 24 yard run, but he would leave shortly afterwards with an ankle injury. Backup QB Terrell Norwood was solid running the offense and although not as mobile as Northworthing he is a better passer and got the Panther WR's involved. NCHS scored two other times as Levy Scott scored from five yards out and then the Panthers got a 53 yard touchdown run.
The remainder of the scrimmage featured more backups and the teams working on the kicking games. NCHS did get one other score on a big 67 yard run as their superior depth was simply more than Southwest could handle. Overall, North Crowley has to be very happy with the way they've performed in their two scrimmages. The Panthers have good size, depth and they've got a lot of speed to burn. They have some questions still to be answered at QB but they look strong at all other spots.
Southwest is still in transition with the new HC Lanny Trammell and the Raiders still have work to do, they are still favored to win 7-4A but maybe not the unanimous choice they had been two weeks prior.
