Week 0: 17-5A Match ups

Friday Night games
Katy vs. North Shore
This is like a modern-day version of Clash of the Titans. Here are two state powerhouses facing off in Week 0. Word on the street is that both teams had okay scrimmages this past weekend, so this will be a good preseason test. On the Katy side, quarterback Parker Ray will get the start as he faces an always stingy North Shore defense led by Thaddeus Randle and Daniel Salinas. In most cases I would not do this, but the advantage is in the favor of the Mustangs. But not by much.

Katy Mayde Creek vs. Brenham
Though there is a difference in classifications, Mayde Creek will face off with a sound Brenham team for Week 0. The Cubs are usually loaded with plenty of talented players and this year is no different. While Brenham linebacker Trent Thomas leads the Cubs, he and the defense will look to stop the likes of Chris West and Sheriff Thomas. I see the Rams setting the tone early and pull out the win.

Katy Morton Ranch vs. Tomball
Morton Ranch has always been a team to put up a good fight, but the Mavericks are just overpowered in this one. Look for Tomball quarterback Chad Tarhini and Jordan Leslie to hook up early and often. This one could get a little out of hand.

Saturday Night games
Katy Cinco Ranch vs. San Antonio Reagan
Coach Don Clayton and Cougars take their show on the road in the third of six games in the Texas Football Classic as they face off against a strong Reagan team. Derrick Walls will lead the Rattlers while Shane Ros guides the Cougars.

I see the Cougars standing tough, but there may be too much to handle with Reagan. Though the Rattlers may have questions on depth, they still come away with a Week 0 win.

Katy Taylor vs. Cy Springs
In this match up, I look for Cy Springs to get the season started on the right foot. This could be the year that Darrell Lea and Darius Wilson each have 1,500-yard seasons. Both teams come into the season opener with new coaches so both teams will fight for the early momentum. This could turn out to be slugfest or a blow out. I'll take the middle of the road in favor of Cy Springs.
