Recruiting District 18-5A: Gridiron Top Dogs has returned for the 2008 football season and we want to make sure and provide you with the best coverage in the state. Today we are going to give you a glimpse of some the district's top players. While this would usually be premium content, we will get you started with this material for free.

Offensive MVP: Rodney Anderson, RB, Houston Stratford
With the moving around of teams to districts, the face off between Alief and Spring Branch ISD is here. With plenty of talent in the district, I see Anderson as the best all-around player. He played a big role in the running game (1,042-12 touchdowns), passing game (28 receptions for 560 yards-four touchdowns), and on kickoff return (24.7 yards average).

Anderson is poised for another big season, but teams have been watching film now and know what he can do.

Other major offensive players
Daniel Neumann, WR, Houston Memorial
Derrick Rainey, ATH, Houston Northbrook
Wes Williams, TE, Houston Strake Jesuit
Shaquille Tubman, WR, Alief Hastings
James Scott, ATH, Houston Strake Jesuit
Rodney Owens, WR, Alief Taylor

Klein Kubiak, WR, Houston Strake Jesuit

Defensive MVP: Terrance Lloyd, DE, Houston Stratford
While he may be quiet and reserved off the field, Lloyd is not one you want to cross on the field. In his big 6-foot-4 frame, Lloyd has strong pass rushing skills and once he gets a hold you, opposing runners don't usually break free. He finished the season with 95 tackles and eight sacks.

Lloyd has not made a decision on college, but he does have a quite a few options from major Division I programs.

Other major defensive players
Michael Ratterree, DB, Houston, Memorial
De'Aires Cotton, DL, Alief Taylor
Desmond Griffin, LB, Alief Hastings
Joseph Williams, DL, Houston Strake Jesuit
Kelvin King, LB, Alief Taylor

Sophomore to watch
Michael Sam, DE, Houston Strake Jesuit
