Recruiting District 20-5A: Gridiron Top Dogs

TexasPrepInsider.com has returned for the 2008 football season and we want to make sure and provide you with the best coverage in the state. Today we are going to give you a glimpse of some the district's top players. While this would usually be premium content, we will get you started with this material for free.

Offensive MVP: Kalvin Guyton, ATH, Houston Lamar
While his primary position is running back, using the category of athlete seems more appropriate. He ended last season with 723 yards and 13 touchdowns, but he also had a few receptions and averaged 26 yards per kickoff return, one of which went for a touchdown.

Look for Guyton to have 1,000-yard season. He has given a verbal commitment to Texas A&M.

Other major offensive players
Broderick Thomas Jr., QB, Houston Madison
Kevin Brooks, WR, Houston Westside
Andre Kelly, QB, Houston Chavez
Josh Gordon, WR, Houston Lamar
Frank Williams, RB, Houston Westside

Sophomore to watch
Eric Deveaux, RB, Houston Bellaire

Defensive MVP: Eric Dago, DE, Houston Westside
This kid moves so much he puts the Energizer Bunny to shame. He pursues the ball well and opposing quarterbacks may want to be aware of where Dago is at all times because he is likely coming. And when he gets there, he brings the funk.

He finished with 95 tackles and five sacks. Dago is headed to Utah.

Other major defensive players
James Washington, LB, Houston Madison
Marquis Kindle, DB, Houston Lamar
Mike Brockers, DE, Houston Chavez
Joe Okafor, DE, Houston Bellaire
DeWayne Buggs, LB, Houston Lamar

Sophomore to watch
Tim Gay, DB, Houston Chavez
