Week 1: 17-5A Match ups
Thursday night game
Katy Seven Lakes vs. Fort Bend Dulles
Both teams open up 2008 play in Week 1 and by first sight it appears that the new kids in Katy have a slight advantage on the talent level at least at the skilled positions. With Zach Voss on defense and Anthony Kendrick on offense, I see Seven Lakes striking hard and early. Now don't get me wrong, I think this game will stay close for some time, but in the end, the Spartans' passing game will prove to be too much for Dulles to handle.

Friday night games
Katy vs. The Woodlands
At least for this district, this could the game of the week. While Katy fell in a hard-fought game against North Shore, the Woodlands was putting a beat down on Cy Fair. Has the Woodlands team arrived to be placed amongst the elite in the city? Only time will tell. The Tigers will face another touch defense this week, but I see them bouncing back. This will be a good measuring rod for the Highlanders, but I'll take Katy by a small margin.

Katy Cinco Ranch vs. Cy Springs
Well, the Cougars made a pretty bold statement pulling out a road win last week. After the performance last week, this game should pose too much of a threat. That's not to say that the Panthers will just roll over, especially after beating Katy Taylor pretty handedly last week. Look for quarterbacks Shane Ros (Cinco Ranch) and Hunter Arter (Cy Springs) to have good showings. But in the end, the Cougars are victorious.

Katy Mayde Creek vs. Foster
Both teams come into play with a win under their belt. Judging by the box scores from last week's game, it seems that Vaughn Miller will be the Rams' starting quarterback as he was effective by air and ground. For Foster, Miles Carlton will set the tone, but that may not be enough as the Rams have too many offensive weapons. I see Mayde Creek dominating this game from start to finish.

Katy Morton Ranch vs. Fort Bend Travis
After seeing what Morton Ranch did to Tomball this week, it would be hard to predict any other way. The duo of Michael Vinson and Joe Mitchell is lethal and will be tough for opponents to defend. Look for both of them to have at least two touchdowns apiece. This one may get out of hand.

Saturday night game
Katy Taylor vs. Fort Bend Austin
Austin opens up the 2008 season and the Bulldogs go up against a Taylor team that is coming off of a Week 0 loss. The Mustangs were not too impressive on either side of the ball, but this week they could work a few of the kinks out. On paper, the Bulldogs seem to be the stronger team. Look for Daniel Rockett and Ben Mezak to set the tone on both sides of the ball. Austin opens up with a win.
