Week 4 District 23-4A Predictions

Each week here at TPI we take a look at the upcoming match-ups across the area. We break it down on a game by game basis by district, and give you the inside track on who to watch, and what games to see. This week most schools in the area are looking to get their seasons back on track after Hurricane Ike.

Thursday's Games

Katy Morton Ranch (3-0) vs Richmond Foster (2-1)

The Katy Morton Ranch Mavericks are led on the offensive side of the ball by QB Joe Mitchell (268 passing yards 1TD, 325 rushing yards 4 TD) and RB Michael Venson (325 rushing yards 4 TD). The Mavericks are averaging almost 7 yards a carry on the ground. DB Nahshon Davis has chipped in with a 23 yard interception return for a TD, and a 92 yard kick off return for another score.
The Richmond Foster Falcons are directed on offense by QB Luke Thomas (256 passing yards 1 TD). Thomas shares the backfield with RB Miles Carlton who is averaging over 9 yards a carry and RB Tony Bruins who has rushed for 87 yards and 2 TD's. The Falcons hope to gain some consistency on special times having had a kick off return for a touchdown in 1 game and 2 fumbles on special teams in another. Th defense accounted for 3 interceptions and 1 fumble last week against Colombia.

Prediction: Mavericks by 10

Rosenberg Terry (1-1) vs Katy Mayde Creek (2-1)

The Terry Rangers look to protect the ball a little better this week as they come off a game in which they had 8 fumbles, losing 4 of them in a loss to Katy Taylor. Offensively they have a pair of running backs in DeMarcus Bufford (83 yds. 2 TD) and Seth Brosette (124 yards 6.2 ypc). DB Michael Finn had an interception return for a touchdown in the Ranger's first game.
The Mayde Creek Rams look to get back to their winning ways after dropping their game with Cinco Ranch last week. The Rams are led by QB Vaughn Miller (468 passing yards 5 TD), RB Devown Hines (226 yards rushing 1 TD), RB Christopher West (225 yards rushing 1 TD), and WR Sheriff Thomas who is averaging 16 yards per catch with 2 TD's. Keep an eye on ATH Lucas Leonard who has scored touchdowns by passing, receiving, and rushing.

Prediction: Rams by 10

Friday's Games

Bay City (1-2) vs Sweeny (1-1)

The Bay City Black Cats come into their homecoming game hoping to even their record up. They boast a pair of running backs that have proven to be effective in Godwin Wyche and LeTevin Wilcox (186 rushing yards 3 TD). Also helping out on the offensive side of the ball is QB Travis Tomek (212 passing yards 1 TD). The Black Cats are another team looking to win the turnover battle this week after being stung by costly turnovers in recent games.
The Sweeny Buldogs are in the same boat as the Black Cats in trying to win the turnover battle. The Bulldogs forced 7 turnovers in their first game in which they defeated Van Vleck, and then lost 7 turnovers in their loss to Bellville. The Bulldogs are led by RB Jarnell Woodard who had 206 rushing yards and 2 scores in their last game.

Prediction: Black Cats by 10

Buda Hays (2-2) vs Lamar Consolidated (0-2)

The Hays Rebels come into their homecoming game led by QB Trey Berry (367 passing yards 5 TD, 438 rushing yards 4 TD) and RB Torrance Smith (290 rushing yards 5 TD, 1 receiving TD).
The Lamar Consolidated Mustangs are led by Senior QB DJ Smallwood who has scored 3 passing and 1 rushing TD's thus far this season. The Mustangs are also led by RB Jordan Towers who has 343 rushing yards and 2 scores on the season as well. Although the Mustangs are 0-2 this season, their 2 losses were to a couple very good opponents in Texas City and Fort Bend Elkins.

Prediction: Rebels by 14

Colombia (1-2) vs El Campo (3-0)

The Colombia Roughnecks come into their match-up with the Ricebirds thies week hoping to gain some momentum on offense. The Roughnecks rushing attack has been formidable early on led by RB Dexter Lewis (222 rushing yards 1 TD) and RB Taylor Johnson (171 yards rushing and 3 TD's). The Roughnecks passing game however is still a work in progress. They have passed for 306 yards, but given up 8 interceptions in the process.
The El Campo Ricebirds come into this weeks matchup looking to remain unbeaten. The Ricebird's defense has only given up and average of 18 pts game to opponents through the first 3 weeks of the season. Offensively the Ricebirds are led by RB Maverick Smith (298 rushing yards 5 TD's) and RB Landon Appling (364 rushing yards 1 TD and 86 receiving yards). Also keep an eye on Bryan Skow who has scored 4 rushing TD's and 1 receiving TD.
