Return Game Propels Everman to Win

Everman's Chris Franklin (left) had two seperate kickoff returns for over 70 yards, returned a punt for a 50 yard touchdown and he had 109 yards receiving in Everman's 42-14 homecoming win over Crowley.

EVERMAN- For the past thirty years save for a few exceptions the Everman Bulldogs and Crowley Eagles have hooked up on the gridiron and nearly as reliable as death and taxes is Everman knocking off Crowley. Friday night at Marr Stadium Everman (5-0, 2-0) knocked off Crowley (1-4, 1-1) 42-14 in front of an estimated homecoming crowd of 7700. The win for the Bulldogs extends their lead in the series to 25-5 and extends Everman's regular season winning streak to 20 games. Everman has also won 26 of their past 28 games.

Chris Franklin and the Everman special teams proved to the difference in the game as Franklin had a 70 yard kickoff return in each half along with returning a punt 50 yards for a touchdown. In addition to those tremendous special teams stats, Franklin caught 3 passes for 105 to lead the Everman offense which totaled 426 yards and was not forced to punt one time.

Early on the Crowley offense caught Everman a bit off guard as the Eagles who had turned into more of a spread team, threw a lot of triple option at the Bulldogs led by speedy QB Andre Dean. On the opening kickoff the Eagles drove right down the field and scored on Dean's 12 yard run and Crowley held an early 7-0 advantage. On the ensuing kickoff Franklin struck returning the kickoff 73 yards down to the Crowley 31. Four plays later junior FB Ruben Fletcher scored from three yards out, however the PAT was missed and after one quarter it was 7-6 as neither team would seriously threaten.

Everman early in the second quarter would mount a threat but as the Bulldogs drove inside the 20, QB Marcus McAdoo fumbled and Crowley would pounce on the loose ball to end the threat. Everman would force an Eagles punt and with the good field position, the Bulldogs would take their first lead as Andrew Camacho nailed a 24 yard field goal to make it 9-7 EHS. Everman's defense would make a few adjustments and corral the fleet footed Dean and force another Crowley punt and this time the Bulldogs would cash in for six as Ryan Smith scored on a 25 yard run to extend the margin to 16-7. Crowley however was not about to go away quietly as the Eagles used backup FB Cameron Prater on two long runs to push the ball deep in EHS territory right before the half, and Chris Allen would score from a yard out and at halftime Everman held a tenuous 16-14 advantage.

On the opening second half kickoff Franklin made his presence known as he returned the kick 74 yards to the Crowley 27. Everman however was unable to fully take advantage of the good field position and they were forced to settle for an Andrew Camacho 33 yard field goal to extend the margin to 19-14. Crowley and Everman would then exchange missed field goal to keep the margin at 19-14. Everman's defense would step up and force another Crowley punt to set the stage for the back breaker as Franklin would take the punt 50 yards for the score to give Everman a two score advantage at 27-14 as Marcus McAdoo ran in the two point conversion.

Everman would salt the game away in the fourth quarter with Ryan Smith scoring on a 60 yard run and Fletcher scoring from 25 yards out to cement the final margin of 42-14. Next week Everman takes on Mansfield Legacy at Anderson Stadium, while Crowley hosts Granbury.
