Deer Park Outguns La Porte 31-21

The Deer Park Deer took on the La Porte Bulldogs on Friday night at Abshire stadium in Deer Park, and TPI was on hand to see how this annual rivalry grudge match would turn out.

The Deer Park Deer came into Friday nights game with The La Porte Bulldogs looking to put their perfect record on the line against there neighboring arch rivals and to stay undefeated.

Mission Accomplished!

The Deer moved to 4-0 on the year and 2-0 in district 22-5A action with the 31-21 win over the Bulldogs.
They didn't do it without a little worrying first though. The Deer were without the services of their leading rusher on the year in Senior RB Travis Carter.
Through 3 games this year Carter had amassed 504 yards rushing and 7 touchdowns, so the Deer were looking for players to step up.

Enter QB Hans Cook, and RB Jarrod Blocker.
Cook took to the air throwing for 151 yards on 11 completions including 2 TD's while Blocker ran the ball 26 times for 99 yards and 2 more TD's to pace the Deer.

Early on it looked as though the Bulldog's were going to set the pace of the game and control things from the start as they took their first play from scrimmage 61 yards deep into Deer territory.
Running back Anthony Webb punched it in from 29 yards out with his first of two touchdowns on the night.

The Deer battled back however and Cook hit Josh Burnett going into the end zone for the 4 yard touchdown pass.
Kicker Zach Gonzalez rounded out the first half scoring with a 32 yards field goal to give the Deer a 10-7 lead.

The Bulldogs took their first possession of the second half and scored on Webb's second touchown of the night to take the 14-10 lead.

It was at this point that Cook and Blocker rose to the occasion.
Blocker scored his two touchdowns of 3 and 17 yards within a minute of each other with a little more than five minutes left in the third to bring the Deer Lead to 24-14.

Cook threw his second touchdown pass of the night to Natreon Moose from 34 yards out with 8:55 left in the game to make it 31-14..

The Bulldogs were not through however. QB Ryan Williams scored on a 1 yard keeper to pull the Bulldogs within a 10 points, but that was as close as they would get as the Deer protected the lead.
