Dallas Roosevelt Pulls One Out Late

The Dallas Roosevelt offense struggled for consistency all day Saturday, but two big plays keyed a 13-7 win over Carrollton Ranchview and secured the Mustangs a spot in the Class 3A State Playoffs.

DALLAS- Dallas Roosevelt (5-4, 4-1) clinched a playoff berth and gained a measure of respect in a hard fought 13-7 win on Saturday afternoon at Kincaide Stadium. Despite getting dominated for the majority of afternoon the Mustangs made plays when it counted to escape with the win.

Early on it looked like Ranchview would roll through the Mustangs as the Wolves scored on their opening drive as Dovian Ingram went untouched 36 yards and Ranchview held an early 7-0 lead after Justin Hagood's PAT. Roosevelt would have an answer later in the quarter as after stopping the Wolves on downs, QB Kevin Booked hooked up with Dejon Williams for an 82 yard touchdown toss and it was 7-7 after one.

The middle two quarters were highlighted by domination from Ranchview as the Wolves moved the ball very consistently but failed to make the plays. In the second quarter, RB Cartez James fumbled at the one yard line of Roosevelt and LB Richard Johnson recovered for the Mustangs to end a drive. Later in the quarter Ranchview had another chance to take the lead but Hagood missed a 42 yard field goal.

Neither team mustered up much offense in the third quarter, but in the fourth quarter again the Wolves were threatening. After moving the ball to midfield, Ranchview punted and pinned the Mustangs deep. Roosevelt would go three and out, but disaster struck as Williams punt only traveled nine yards. Ranchview would take over at the Roosevelt sixteen yard line and after a first down the Wolves were inside the five. QB Tyler Lynch on an option play was stripped on first down and once again the Wolves were turned back. Roosevelt would have one final big play up their sleeve with nine minutes left as Brendell Webb broke free for a sensational 97 yard touchdown run down the Mustang sideline which would be the game winner. Ranhview would fail to cross midfield the remainder of the game and Dallas Roosevelt would escape with the improbable victory.

Next week Dallas Roosevelt closes out their regular season at Fort Worth Carter-Riverside while Carrollton Ranchview hosts River Oaks Castleberry.
