Pottsboro Rolls Through Jacksboro

Pottsboro improved to 10-1 with a 41-14 rout of Jacksboro on Thursday night at the Collins Athletic Complex as QB Blake Towrey threw five touchdown passes to lead the big win for Pottsboro.

DENTON- The Pottsboro Cardinals (10-1) strolled into the Collins Athletic Complex as heavy favorites and they lived up to their status with a convincing 41-14 win over the Jacksboro Tigers (6-5) in the bi-district round of the Class 2A Division 2 State Playoffs. QB Blake Towrey led the onslaught with 272 yards passing and five touchdown passes and his favorite target all night long was WR Terry Land who scorched the Tigers secondary with 164 receiving yards and two touchdown receptions.

Things started out well for the Cardinals and it snowballed in the first quarter as PHS scored on a five play drive as Adrian Dabrio scored on a one yard run for a 6-0 lead. After a quick three and out Cory Griffith partially blocked a JHS punt and set the Cardinals up with great field position. Three plays later Pottsboro took a 12-0 lead as Towrey threw a 42 yard touchdown pass to Lowell Hennon.

Early in the second quarter Pottsboro took a 20-0 lead as Towrey hooked up with Land for a 42 yard touchdown pass to make it 18-0, Towrey got the two point conversion pass to Drew Bates to give PHS the twenty point lead. Jacksboro finally got a nice drive going as the Tigers moved it all the way down to the Pottsboro one. However the drive would symbolize how bad the night went as on fourth and goal from the one turned into a fourth and goal from the 21 as an offsides penalty and a personal foul after the play destroyed Jacksboro's chance. More disaster struck Jacksboro as with 35 seconds left in the first half, Dabrio recovered a Jacksboro fumble and on the next play Towrey threw a 37 yard touchdown pass to Tyler Pruitt and it was 27-0 Pottsboro at the half.

The second half would turn from bad to worse as Jacksboro RB Kelby Ray fumbled and DE Cody Bauer would fall on the loose ball at the JHS 40. Towrey would quickly add to the lead as he threw touchdown pass number four to Cameron Boulware and it was 34-0. Jacksboro would then fumble the ensuing kickoff and on the first play Towrey and Land connected from 25 yards out and the lead had ballooned to 41-0. Pottsboro after taking the 41-0 lead would empty the bench and Jacksboro would score touchdowns on a 17 yard run by QB Kole Weldon and a 20 yard run by Logan Gunter for the final margin of 41-14.

The win for Pottsboro is the Cardinals first playoff win since 1987. Next week Pottsboro will take on the winner of Saturday's matchup between Omaha Paul Pewitt and Tom Bean at a date and location to be determined.
