Region III 5A D1 Insider (Area Round)
Katy Cinco Ranch (10-1) vs. Aldine Eisenhower (7-2) Friday 7:00pm Rhodes Stadium, Katy
The Cinco Ranch Cougars are coming off a 50-14 win over Alief Taylor in the Bi-District round last week. The Cougars were once again led offensively by Senior quarterback Shane Ros who had 227 passing yards and 3 touchdowns. Running back Adam Hirtz had 132 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns in the win. The Cougars defense had a great performance forcing 3 interceptions and recovering 5 fumbles.
The Aldine Eisenhower Eagles won their opening round game over Westside last week 23-3. The Eagles were led offensively by Kenny Guiton who had 143 passing yards and a touchdown, and Curtis McGregor who rushed for 84 yards. Defensively Craig Loston intercepted a pass and returned it 24 yards for the touchdown. The defense had 4 interceptions in all and recovered 2 fumbles.
Both these teams are playing great football right now and are loaded with talent! Both defenses had great performances last week, both of which had scores in their respective teams wins. Look for it to come down to which team makes the most big plays on defense.

Galena Park North Shore (9-0) vs. Fort Bend Hightower (9-0) Friday 7:30pm Memorial Stadium, Pasadena
The North Shore Mustangs kept right on rolling last week in a 30-10 win over Deer Park in the opening round of the playoffs. Quarterback Alex Tillman threw for 209 yards and 2 touchdowns. Both were to wide receiver Deandrew White, who fished with 76 reciveing yards. Tracey woods rushed for 109 yards and another score. The Mustang defense held Deer Park to just 190 total yards in the game, and scored on a fumble return by Ricardo Perez.
The Hightower Hurricanes beat Clear Creek 59-17 last week in the opening round of the playoffs. Quarterback A.J. Highsmith led the charge offensively with 105 passing yards and a touchdown to go with 122 rushing yards and 3 more scores. Running back Jermane Longino had 95 yards rushing and a touchdown in the win. The Hurricanes had an interception and 3 fumble recoveries.
This game should be an epic battle, I honestly couldn't tell you who I think will win. I think it comes down to the play of North Shore's QB as to who will win. If he has a good game, North Shore should be alright.

Katy Taylor (5-4) vs. Houston Lamar (8-1) Saturday 1:00pm Delmar Stadium, Houston,
The Katy Taylor Mustangs beat Houston Memorial last week 17-3. The lone offensive touchdown came from running back Steven Sartory who had 106 yards to go with the score. Defensively the Mustangs kept memorial out of the end zone and had an interception and a fumble recovery that they returned for a touchdown.
The Houston Lamar Redskins won 19-14 over Kingwood last week to open their playoffs. Running back Patrick Andrews had 219 rushing yards and a touchdown in the win. Wide receivers Josh Gordon and Jordan Bilbo each had touchdown receptions in the game. The defense had a huge 4th down stand late in the game to seal the victory for the Redskins.
Both these teams have the ability to run and pass the ball. Both defenses had big weeks last week. I would actually look for Lamar to overpower them with the better skill guys.

Pearland (10-0) vs. Houston Clear Lake (8-2) Friday 7:00pm Abshire Stadium, Deer Park
The Pearland Oilers continued their run through this season with a 39-15 win over Baytown Sterling last week. The Oiler offense was dominating as usual, as Kasey Carrier rushed for 237 yards and 3 touchdown. Sam Allen also chipped in with 137 passing yards and 2 touchdowns to Kevin Miller. Defensively the Oilers were equally dominating as the recorded 6 sacks and 3 interceptions.
The Clear Lake Falcons beat Kempner last week 21-7 in the Bi-District round of the playoffs. The Falcons defense had a huge game last week with an interception return for a touchdown and a blocked punt recoverd for another touchdown. The held Kempner to just 141 offensive yards. Quarterback Eric Canas had 124 rushing yrds in the win.
Regional Player of the Week: Kasey Carrier,RB,Pearland
Senior running back Kasey Carrier continued his year long assault on opposing defenses last week with 237 yards and 3 touchdowns in the Oilers win over Baytown Sterling. On the year he has rushed for over 1600 yards and 26 touchdowns. Carrier and his Oilers teammates face off against Clear Lake this Friday at 7:00.
