Bridgeport Wins in Dramatic Fashion

After falling behind 28-7 late in the third quarter Bridgeport kept their season alive with a stunning 31-28 comeback win in overtime against Monahans.

SWEETWATER- For three quarters it appeared the Bridgport Bulls (12-0) would be heading home with their first loss at the hands of the Monahans Loboes (10-3). However the Bulls scored 24 unanswered points to pull out a miraculous 31-28 overtime win over Monahans in a Class 3A Region 1 Division II Semi-Final at the Mustang Bowl. RB Corbin Green ran for three touchdowns to pace the comeback and spoil a sensational effort from Monahans QB Quincy Titus who threw for 86 yards and a touchdown, ran for 117 yards and a touchdown and he had 26 receiving yards and a score. Bridgeport's Ricky Martinez nailed a 32 yard field goal in overtime for the game winning margin.

The first quarter was scoreless as Monahans controlled the clock moving inside the BHS 30 but the drive stalled. After Wade Roark recovered a Green fumble the Loboes would draw first blood as Titus hooked up with Trevor Owens for a 19 yard touchdown pass and a 7-0 Monahans lead. Bridgeport would waste little time tying the game as Green scored his first touchdown of the game from 12 yards out. The drive was highlighted by a couple of sensational passes from QB Cameron Green to WR Daniel Olmos.

Quincy Titus would take charge on the next Monahans drive as he broke off a 57 yard run and then he'd cap the drive scoring on a six yard run. The PAT failed and Monahans led 13-7. MHS would get a quick three and out and then it would once again be the Titus show as on the first half's final play he'd line up at WR and sophomore backup QB Wade Roark would throw a fade route into triple coverage but the 6'3 Titus went up and grabbed it for the score and a 19-7 Monahans lead. The two point try was good as Titus found a wide open Owens for the score and a 21-7 halftime lead.

Monahans would extend the lead to 28-7 early in the third quarter as Stephen Noel scored from 34 yards out and it appeared the Loboes were on cruise control. After forcing a BHS three and out Monahans drove once again inside the Bridgeport 20 but the Bulls defense finally bowed their neck and forced Monahans out on downs. The Bulls went into two minute drill mode and quickly moved down the field to score right before the third quarter ended to cut the margin to 28-14 as Corbin Green scored from ten yards out.

In the fourth quarter Bridgeport kept the momentum up as Blake Waldrep blocked a Monahans punt setting the Bulls up at the Monahans 21. Green would score touchdown number three from three yards out and all of a sudden the Monahans lead was trimmed to 28-21 with 6:20 left. Monahans recovered the onside kick but the Loboes would go three and out and give Bridgeport the ball back with under five minutes left. The Bulls would come through scoring with 21 seconds left as Cameron Green hit Collin White for a six yard touchdown pass to tie it up at 28 and send the game into overtime.

In overtime Monahans would take the ball first, but with momentum squarely with Bridgeport the Loboes went four and out. Bridgeport would also fail to get a first down, but that would set up Martinez for his game winning kick and the stunning win for the Bulls.

Next week in the Class 3A Division II State Quarter-Finals Bridgeport meets the winner of tomorrow's game between Liberty Hill and Sweetwater.
