Rollison Leads Sulphur Springs to Big Win

Tyrik Rollison and Sulphur Springs rolled up 498 yards of offense in an impressive 47-34 win over Everman on Saturday at Texas Stadium.

IRVING- It's Tyrik Rollison's world right now and once again he proved it as the Sulphur Springs Wildcats (13-2) advanced to their first ever state championship game with an impressive 47-34 win over the Everman Bulldogs (14-1) at Texas Stadium. Rollison accounted for six total touchdowns four through the air and two on the ground as SSHS shredded the Everman defense to the tune of 497 yards total offense.

Early on Everman appeared to have the upper hand as the Bulldogs took the opening kickoff and scored on a 27 yard run by sophomore Cory Franklin. Everman leading 7-0 then forced a Sulphur three and out and went up 14-0 as Chris Franklin scored from nine yards out and quickly it was 14-0. Sulphur Springs would respond as Rollison and the offense got rolling as he hooked up with Shane McQueen for a 73 yard touchdown pass and it was 14-7.

Early in the second quarter Everman extended the lead to 21-7 as Ryan Smith scored the first of two touchdowns on an eight yard run, the drive was setup by a failed onside kick by SSHS. The score-fest continued as the Wildcats scored quickly on a 14 yard pass from Rollison to Jace Jackson to make it 21-14. SSHS got a much needed stop and after a short Everman punt of eleven yards, Sulphur Springs would cut the lead to 21-20 as Rollison and Rashad Hall hooked up on a five yard pass, however Fernando Arellano's PAT failed. Sulphur Springs would again try the onside kick and again it would fail, but Everman it hindsight may have scored too quickly, as Smith scored on an eleven yard run for a 28-20 advantage. Everman left the high powered SSHS offense over two minutes on the clock and with 20 seconds left Jackson hauled in his second touchdown pass of the game from eleven yards out to make it 28-26 at the half as the two point try failed.

The momentum swung early in the second half as after Everman recovered the onside kick to start the second half, the Wildcats defense stepped up and got a stop and forced the Bulldogs to punt. Sulphur Springs would marc right down the field and RB Ryan Young scored on a ten yard run and the Wildcats took their first lead of the game at 33-28. Disaster would strike the Bulldogs on their next series as after driving inside the SSHS twenty, on a third and seven play Cory Franklin would fumble and DL JB Beachem would pounce on the loose ball. The Wildcats wasted no time taking advantage of the mistake as Rollison would lead the troops down the field on another very impressive march. He'd cap the drive this time with a 13 yard run and the lead ballooned to 40-28.

Everman now out of their element turned to the passing game but it was not successful as McAdoo was picked off by DB Bryant Jackson to end a potential scoring threat and the Wildcats would score their 27th unanswered point on Rollison's five yard run early in the fourth quarter. Everman would add a late score as Marcus McAdoo threw a 23 yard touchdown pass to Deantre Harlan but it was too little too late as the onside kick failed and Sulphur Springs would run the clock out for a 47-34 win and a trip to the Class 4A Division II State Championship which will be played next Saturday at the Alamodome.
