I had the privilege and honor of getting to watch Rex Burkhead over the last four years. For those Nebraska fans who are unaware of the Plano ISD - Plano ISD splits their high schools up into high schools and senior high schools. The high schools are 9th and 10th grade schools which ultimately feed into the senior highs which are 11th and 12th grade schools. As a freshman, this kid was so special, he was bussed from his 9th-10th grade school to Plano Senior High to practice and play against seniors.
As a freshman, he intercepted soon to be state champion Southlake Carroll's Greg McElroy. As a sophomore, he played quarterback and set Plano records throwing the ball in a running based offense. As a junior, he was moved to running back, and as a senior, he did a bit of everything.
At a conversation in Texas Stadium with Midwest Recruiting Guru Baron Flenory - he summed up the hypothetical knock on a player like Burkhead - that he is a finished product and that there wouldn't be an upside.
In my eyes, this kid is a winner. Much like there was a knock on Chase Daniel - the Missouri star, that he may not have been big enough or that he might have been a finished product - all Burkhead knows how to do is win. There is no doubt that when he gets to Nebraska - he will continue that winning spirit, be a leader on the team - and will help Nebraska return to the prominent level it wishes to obtain.
Recruiting analysts measure a lot of things - but spirit, heart and desire don't get a star - from me, they do - and Burkhead will be a great pick-up for the Cornhuskers!
