Over the past few years the Austin High Maroons have jumped back on the scene in the Greater Austin Area. Producing stars like Emory Blake the Maroons are a perennial playoff contender. The next star in line is 6'3 218 pound QB Jacob Morgan who in leading AHS to a 6-5 record in 2008 threw for 2285 yards and 17 touchdowns while also rushing for three scores. Those solid numbers earned Morgan Honorable Mention all District 25-5A honors.

The Austin High signal caller who is also a member of the baseball team says is arm and his touch on the deep ball are two of his strong areas, "I think my arm is a strength but I want to work on my footwork and accuracy this summer to take my game to the next level."

Although holding no offers Jacob says Texas Tech and Texas A&M are his two favorites and in fact he'll be visiting Lubbock next weekend for the Red Raiders Junior Day. Morgan has already attended junior days at Houston and SMU as well and is getting heavy interest from TCU, Minnesota and Colorado.

Morgan and his teammates will be busy this summer trying to get the Maroons to the seven on seven State Tournament this July and Jacob plans on attending camp at Texas A&M, Texas Tech and SMU. The future Business major when asked about a timetable for a decision was very specific, "I want to decide before the season starts and get it over with, I saw what a toll the process took on Emory (Blake) last year and I want to learn and do things different," said Morgan who has some lofty goals for Austin High in 2009. "I want us to win district and make a playoff run, I think we've got the weapons to get it done. Personally I'd like to throw for 3000 yards and 30 touchdown passes.
