Marshall is home to not only one of the top LB's in the state, but also a potentially big time sleeper in RB J.C. Haigwood. The 5'10 180 pound back with 4.5 speed in the forty is poised to have a big senior season and have his stock increase in a major way.

Haigwpood who in his first two years on the Mavericks varsity squad split time in the backfield averaging 10 carries a game totaling over 900 yards and 9 touchdowns. "This year I won't be splitting time, Coach (Harris) has told me I'll get 20 touches per game this year," said Haigwood who is the strongest member of the Mavericks football squad as he bench presses 345 pounds and he squats 485 pounds.

Haigwood who describes himself as a determined and powerful runner who gets downhill quickly is getting interest from TCU, SMU and North Texas but he currently holds no offers at this time. "I'm interested first and foremost in a school who is interested in me, but I want a school with small class size and a great campus atmosphere," said Haigwood who plans on majoring in business.

After making the playoffs but getting eliminated in the bi-district round of the playoffs in 2008 by Kilgore, Haigwood and the Mavs are aiming for bigger things in one of the most brutal districts in the state. "I think we can make some noise this year, we have Longview, Sulphur Springs and Texarkana Texas but we have the talent to play with those guys."
