One of the more underrated prospects in all of East Texas without a doubt is Tyler Lee's Chris Dinkins. At 6'2 195 pounds and with sub 4.5 speed in the forty Dinkins has all the tools to be a force at the next level. With Thursday's verbal to TCU, Dinkins is sure to pop up on more and more top 100 lists around the state.
"I really liked TCU, I visited twice before I committed," said Dinkins. "They were the first school to offer me and the location and smaller class sizes are something that really appealed to me. I'm getting recruited to play safety so the style of defense fits me perfect."
Dinkins who was also getting interest from Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Houston, Kansas State, Nebraska and UCLA was an honorable mention all 11-5A selection as a junior helping Tyler Lee to a 7-5 mark. "I am good in run support but I really like to be in the secondary and roaming around playing centerfield. I think my ability to play the run and pass is my biggest asset," said the Tyler Lee FS.
Dinkins who joins teammate LB Blake Roberts as early verbal commits to TCU will spend the majority of senior year on the offensive side of the ball playing QB, "I'm working hard on playing QB right now. 7 on 7 will be big, I'm confident we've got enough young guys to step in and fill the spots on defense."
Chris these days is spending much of his time on track as he runs the 4x100 and 4x200 relays along with the long jump for the Tyler Lee track squad. The Red Raiders will next run tomorrow at a track meet in Marshall.
