On offense the Eagles spread attack is still seeking a QB to take the reins, sophomore Austin Aune could be the guy to step in. Aune at 6'2 175 features the size the Eagles offense likes and he's got a big arm but the Eagles will have to try and limit the mistakes his youth will likely cause. Lance Sutton will be the top receiver returning as he hauled in 3 touchdown catches as a junior. Layton Lowry who saw spot duty as a junior will be counted on to carry the load in the ground game and he could blossom behind a very experienced offensive line led by first team all-district C Sam Forrer. TE Tyler Sweatt will be another threat in the passing game as he was also first team all 9-3A.
The Argyle defense has six starters back headlined by DE David Johnson. The TCU commit was the District 9-3A Defensive Lineman of the year as he notched 12 sacks as a junior. Jake Sizelove and Blake Dunham combined for ten sacks and over 130 tackles giving AHS one of the top defensive lines in the area. Dran Crenshaw leads the secondary as he had 2 INTs last year and both were returned for touchdowns.
Look for Argyle to be a better overall team in 2009, I expect an 8-2 regular season with the only losses coming in 9-3A to Celina and Prosper. The Eagles should have a manageable playoff road as well, and if things break right they might be able to make a run to the Regional Final.
