For the Aldine Nimitz football team, there have been better seasons in recent years for the Cougars. In 2008, a dismal 3-6 finish has likely left a bad taste in the mouth of this Aldine ISD squad.

But no worries, the Cougars return 29 lettermen and have 12 starters (6 OFF, 6 DEF) to line up for 2009.

Like most years, Nimitz relies heavily on its run game and more than likely that is a trend that will not change. With that said, the Cougars have a stable full of qualified backs to carry the load. Leading the way is three-year starter Marion Grice (6-2, 200) who returns after rushing for 357 yards and three touchdowns. Grice averaged more than six yards a carry.

Also, Marquis Abram (5-8, 165) and Joshua Huff (5-11, 180) will get their fair share of carries. On the line leading the way for the big men is all-district tackle Christian Arredondo.

Defensively, the Cougars' strength lies in their linebacker corp and Tavares Howard (5-11, 195) leads the way. Howard finished the season 63 tackles. Torrin Wiltz (6-0, 190) and Katron Dosewell (5-10, 185) also return and they had 41 and 37 tackles respectively.

In the defensive backfield, look for cornerback Julius Wilkins (5-9, 160) and Jamarcus Darden to play big roles. Wilkins had 31 tackles and an interception and Darden hauled in two interceptions last season.

On special teams, both Huff and Grice can make things happen. Huff averaged 50 yards per kickoff return and had touchdowns from 93 and 84 yards. Grice had seven kickoff returns for 240 yards and a touchdown from 93 yards.
