On offense junior QB Dorsey Griffin will lead the offensive side of the ball after splitting time as a sophomore. Griffin is a big strong runner with good speed and a good arm, he's got the experience learning the offense so look for a major step forward. The ground game will be strong with junior Da'Ryon Witherspoon and sophomore William Martin who ran for 25 touchdowns as a freshman. Witherspoon boasts great open field speed and Martin is shifty runner with great vision. The receiving corps will be hurt with the loss of Darian Hogg, however the younger receivers are extremely talented and are loaded with speed merchants. Cameron Jordan will lead the offensive line after a second team all 8-4A season.
On defense Arlington Seguin at times played extremely well but suffered through bouts of inconsistent play. In the Cougars 3-3 Stack scheme the play of the linebackers is crucial as they will be counted on to make plays. Jonathan Andrews will be key as his combination of size and speed makes him the anchor of that unit. The defensive line is led by Jarez Mabin who at 300 pounds is able to take on blockers to free the LB's up. The secondary is the strength of the defense as Ciante Evans is the top player back, Evans is a big time prospect and has all the tools to blossom into an all-state caliber player. Larry Conston is another contributor as his good size enables him to come up and make plays in the running game.
Expect Arlington Seguin to be one of the surprise teams in the area, their underclass teams were strong, especially in District 8-4A play. The Cougars were competitive against the elite teams in District 8-4A in spurts and with both Everman and Stephenville expected to be down this year SHS could be poised to jump up to third and possibly have enough to jump into second place.
