Not sure if you want to call it rebuilding or reloading. But rest assured, there are plenty of productive off-season days taking place at Spring Westfield. Going into his sixth year leading the team with an impressive 52-11 record at Westfield, coach Corby Meekins will have 24 letterman and six (2 OFF, 4 DEF) returning starters to get the ball rolling for 2009.

With the offense, there is little doubt that quarterback Jacoby Walker (6-2, 210) will be the leader on the field. Walker was a top all-district pick as a junior and was 141-of-211 for 2,034 yards and 20 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

Walker will have at least one proven target for this year with Jordan Sampson (6-0, 175) on the edge. Sampson hauled 14 receptions for 219 yards. Also, look for Christian Jones (6-3, 200) to play a key role in the Mustang offense. Jamarcus Morning will likely be the team's primary tailback.

On defense, the Mustangs' leading tackler was a big man up front, Desmond Jackson (6-1.5, 275), who was the district's newcomer of the year as a sophomore. Jackson had 64 tackles (21 for loss) and four sacks. The next line of defense should be a strong point for the defense with three experienced linebackers with Aaron Harris (6-3, 222), Kenneth Dickie (5-10, 205), and Roland Hannah (5-10, 215). Harris had 48 tackles (14 for loss) and seven sacks while Dickie recorded 53 tackles.

In the defensive backfield, Anthony Kegler (5-11, 185) returns after a junior season with 32 tackles and an interception.
