Judging by the numbers, there may be a little bit of rebuilding going on at Houston Strake Jesuit. But no worries as the Crusaders bring back 14 letterman and eight (4 OFF, 4DEF) starters to line up for the 2009 season. Strake Jesuit won the 18-5A district title last season with a 9-2 overall record.

As for experience, the defensive side of the ball seems to be where the strength of the team lies. Starting up front, defensive lineman Michael Sam (6-2, 230) is a player the coaching staff has a lot of confidence in. With Sam up front, the will make room for linebackers Will Huskinson (5-11, 185) and Tim Hilbe (5-11, 190) to make plenty of plays.

In the backfield, leading the way is safety Evan Fichter (6-0, 175), who coach has labeled a headhunter. Fichter recorded 72 tackles and two interceptions as a sophomore.

On offense, the quarterback position has yet to be filled, but look for Graham Chapman or Hunter Schiro (6-1, 190) to lead the way for next season. Last season the Crusaders had two primary guys on the receiving end. Now, it looks like Beau Grenier will be the likely primary target. Grenier averaged 14 yards a catch and scored two touchdowns last season.

From last year's numbers, the ground game will be handled primarily by Chaz Mitchell, who ran for 204 yards and a score. He also had seven receptions.
